# How do I choose or hide the caller ID?

Choose or hide the caller ID in sipgate – settings for outgoing calls.

You can set which **caller ID** you want to transmit. By default, **no sender number is set**. You can use both your mobile number and a landline number or, for example, a number from your **switchboard** set. This only applies to calls within Germany; abroad, your sipgate number will always be displayed.

As **admin** click in the **account management** on the user for whom you want to set the caller ID. The routing opens, where you can, with one click on the desired VoIP phone, the **caller ID** change or suppress with the gear icon.

As **user** click under **My telephony** click on the menu item **Navigation** and select the **desired device** out. You can also set the caller ID here with the gear icon.

In the field **displayed number** you can use an already assigned number as **caller ID** set, or **Sender number** suppress it. If you display the caller ID by default, you can later suppress it as needed for individual calls using the key combination \*31# before the actual number.\\

* Your original incoming number is visible to **the police, emergency services, call centers,** **law enforcement authorities** at all times. The **misuse** of this service is **punishable**.
* To transmit sender numbers not assigned to your account, a function called **Clip no Screening** is used. Since not all networks and providers support this, we cannot guarantee - especially for calls abroad - that the desired number will always be displayed at the destination.
* If an international number is set as the caller ID, calls or faxes to special numbers such as 0800 may not be possible in some cases. Some providers of special numbers only allow connections from German landline and mobile numbers.

Important: The sender number set here is not automatically transferred to the sipgate app. Here, as a user, you must once again your [set your caller ID](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/20859111266077-Wie-kann-ich-meine-Absenderrufnummer-in-CLINQ-setzen).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sipgate.de/cloud-telefonanlage/en/using-sipgate/telefonie/wie-waehle-oder-unterdruecke-ich-die-absenderrufnummer.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
