# How do I use sipgate with Starlink?

Some customers use Starlink as their internet provider abroad. When used in combination with sipgate, there are a few things to keep in mind:

In principle, telephony with sipgate via Starlink works without problems with the standard Starlink router or the built-in Wi-Fi router, the Starlink Mini. It does not matter whether you use a business or private plan. Connections can also be established with IPv6. When setting it up, please make sure that the antenna is not blocked from above by obstacles (for example, branches or awnings).

In **Private customer plan** from Starlink, however, you should note the following:\
In the configuration, there is the option to activate a **bypass mode** This mode should be used if you want to use your own router and bypass the Starlink router. This gives your own router a public IP address directly, allowing you to avoid double NAT and thus improve the connection over VoIP.

VoIP calls work best when your Starlink connection runs consistently and without errors. You can easily check your connection in the Starlink app under **OUTAGES**. Short outages in the range of 0.1 seconds to 2 seconds (first tab) are usually unproblematic for real-time applications. It becomes critical, however, with longer outages of 2 seconds or more (second tab), as calls can briefly stutter or fail completely. If calls still occasionally cannot be made, switching the protocol to TCP can ensure a more stable connection.
