# How do I use sipgate with Starlink?

Some customers use Starlink as their internet provider abroad. In combination with sipgate, there are a few things to note:

In general, telephony with sipgate over Starlink works without problems with the standard Starlink router or the built-in Wi‑Fi router, the Starlink Mini. It makes no difference whether you use a business or private plan. Connections can also be established with IPv6. Please make sure during setup that the antenna is not blocked from above by obstacles (for example branches or awnings).

In the **Private customer plan** from Starlink, however, you should note the following:\
In the configuration there is the option to enable a **Bypass mode** to activate. This mode should be used when you want to use your own router and bypass the Starlink router. This gives your own router a public IP address directly, allowing you to avoid double NAT and thus improve the connection over VoIP.

VoIP calls work optimally when your Starlink connection is running consistently and without errors. You can easily check your connection in the Starlink app under the **OUTAGES**. Short outages in the range of 0.1 seconds to 2 seconds (first tab) are usually unproblematic for real-time applications. It becomes critical, however, with longer outages from 2 seconds (second tab), since calls may briefly stall or completely drop out. If it still happens that calls are sporadically not possible, switching the protocol to TCP can provide a more stable connection.
