# Can I set international phone numbers as the sender number?

International numbers can generally be set as caller IDs. However, if a number is set as the caller ID from outside the European Economic Area (EEA), calls and SMS to the German mobile network **as well as calls to the German landline network** are unfortunately not possible. This also applies to **forwarding from this phone number to the German mobile and landline network.** You can still be reached on numbers in your account that are outside the EEA. Faxes also cannot be received or sent with international numbers.

If you have set up call forwarding to a German or EU mobile number, calls from numbers outside the European Economic Area will not reach the forwarding destination. This also applies to the use of a German or EU mobile number set up as an "external phone". Because technically, this function is nothing other than a parallel forwarding.

When making outgoing calls with an international number, special-rate numbers (0800, 0900...) cannot be reached.

There is a special case if, with a Swiss caller ID, you cannot reach certain destinations in Switzerland. Background: Various Swiss telephone providers block incoming calls from abroad if they are transmitted with a Swiss phone number.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** This only applies if you booked your Swiss phone number through sipgate before August 2025.
{% endhint %}

To get around this, you can set a German number as the caller ID or call anonymously.

{% hint style="info" %}
Tip: The person being called in Switzerland can have the corresponding call blocking disabled by their telecommunications provider.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sipgate.de/cloud-telefonanlage/en/using-sipgate/telefonie/kann-ich-internationale-telefonnummern-als-absendernummer-setzen.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
