# What are the limitations when receiving SMS?

Basically, mobile numbers ring on both VoIP devices and mobile phones. However, there are restrictions on SMS delivery.\\

**SMS delivery only possible on mobile phones**\
If a mobile number rings exclusively on VoIP devices, SMS cannot be delivered. SMS are delivered only to mobile devices. Receiving SMS from the **mobile network** to sipgate landline numbers is not possible. This means that SMS will not appear in your event list in this case either. Only after an SMS has been successfully delivered to a mobile phone can it also be accessed in the event list.

**No SMS delivery to groups**\
If you use a mobile number as a group number, SMS cannot be delivered.

**Restrictions on SMS delivery from individual providers or from abroad**\
Machine-sent SMS from abroad via so-called “cheap routes” are sometimes not delivered. For example, SMS sent via web SMS providers may occasionally not arrive on sipgate SIM cards.

**Restrictions on international numbers**

Please note that, for technical reasons, international numbers cannot be used to receive SMS.

**Restriction on landline numbers**

Please note that, for technical reasons, landline numbers cannot be used to receive SMS.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sipgate.de/cloud-telefonanlage/en/using-sipgate/mobilfunk/was-sind-die-beschraenkungen-beim-empfang-von-sms.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
