# How do I configure signal encryption via TLS?

**Transport Layer Security (TLS)** is a security protocol used for the encrypted transmission of data over the Internet. It is the successor to SSL and is intended to prevent third parties from simply analyzing your SIP data.

The **setup** of TLS can be carried out in your phone, router, or VoIP app as follows:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Enter registrar**

Enter **sipgate.de** .
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Enter proxy**

In the Proxy/Outbound Proxy field, enter **sip.sipgate.de** .
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Change signaling**

On some models, you must change the **signaling** from UDP to TLS.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

With encrypted signaling, we also require the voice data to be encrypted. Depending on the device, encryption may happen automatically. If manual encryption is required, "SRTP" must be set on the device. If this setting is incorrect, calls will be rejected with error "488 No Acceptable here".

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Exceptions:**

* Speedport W7XX & W9XX offer you neither a second server nor the TLS setting.
* Speedport Hybrid offers you neither a second server nor the TLS setting.
* Speedport Pro offers you neither a second server nor the TLS setting.
* Fritz!Box requires at least firmware 7.23 in order to be able to activate TLS.
* Zoiper Android rejects TLS registration with SIP 408 Timeout.
  {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sipgate.de/cloud-telefonanlage/en/getting-started/konfigurationsanleitungen/wie-konfiguriere-ich-die-signalverschluesselung-via-tls.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
