# How do I get sipgate ready to go? – checklist for administrators

As an administrator, you can set up sipgate in just a few steps. Here you will find an overview of the first steps.

#### **Book a phone number**

If you have just created your account and are in the 30-day trial period, five test phone numbers with the 0211 area code are available to you. You can then book one or more [phone numbers for your account](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/4403594709521). Do you want to take existing phone numbers with you to sipgate? Then you can request a porting. You can learn everything about number porting in the [porting article](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/360020457458-Rufnummernmitnahme-zu-sipgate).

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Important:** Before you can make calls with a booked phone number or a test phone number, you must, for legal reasons, your [verify your location](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/360019995317-Wie-verifiziere-ich-meinen-Unternehmensstandort-bei-sipgate). You will receive an email with the necessary steps. Contact us if you have any questions: [0211-63553355](https://github.com/pinekenstein/zendesk-import/blob/main/cloud-telefonanlage/erste-schritte/alles-fuer-den-start-mit-sipgate/0211-63553355/README.md).
{% endhint %}

#### **Create users**

Don't want to use sipgate alone? Then you need to create users. The article [Create and manage users](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/4403594541201) explains how to proceed.

#### **Assign / add phone number**

Assigning / adding phone numbers takes place on two levels, which are however linked to each other. A distinction is made between:

* Assign a phone number to the user
* User adds this phone number to a device

All information on this can be found in the article [Assign phone numbers](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/360019849057).

#### **Create a VoIP phone, mobile device or external phone**

sipgate can be used with VoIP phones. Both administrators and users have the option of creating end devices. You can find out how to set up and configure the phones in your sipgate account in the article [Basic settings for users](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/4405170458385).

#### **Configure VoIP phone**

What is actually the difference between **Create VoIP phone** and **Configure VoIP phone**? If you create a VoIP phone, you have created a telephony endpoint in your routing - or a user's routing - which must still be connected to a desk phone, softphone or other device so that actual calls can be made. And that is exactly what you do under [Configure VoIP phone](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/4405170458385)*.*

#### **Activate mobile device**

If you create a mobile device, you still have to activate it with a **SIM card or eSIM** so that you or users can make calls. To do this, simply follow the individual steps in the dialog window. The article [Mobile communications management for admins](https://help.sipgate.de/hc/de/articles/4986539161757) explains the individual steps.

#### **Softphone**

The sipgate softphone is configured with your telephony data and is therefore the fastest way to your first call. [Download it now, log in and start making calls.](https://www.sipgateteam.de/softphone?gclid=CjwKCAjw6fCCBhBNEiwAem5SO8FCF5FhotvA79alosoZHSxRZQXAAOWj8nO5mCGMhMyukjo8jO-isBoCVIoQAvD_BwE)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.sipgate.de/cloud-telefonanlage/en/getting-started/alles-fur-den-start-mit-sipgate/wie-mache-ich-sipgate-startklar-checkliste-fuer-administratorinnen.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
